What Is Oxygen Scavenging in Boilers?

May. 26, 2021

If left untreated, boiler water derived oxygen will corrode metallic boiler components leading to increased maintenance costs and reduced boiler efficiency. Oxygen-related metallic corrosion is a significant issue in the operation and maintenance of industrial boiler systems and steam raising plant. Next, the carbohydrazide supplier will share the following content with you.

To ensure that such boiler systems are well maintained and operate at optimum efficiency it is essential that the correct water conditions are maintained at all times. This can be achieved using carefully selected oxygen scavengers designed specifically for steam boiler corrosion control and feed water corrosion control in steam raising plants.

Technically advanced boiler water oxygen scavengers are scientifically formulated to combat the detrimental effects of oxygen-related corrosion in industrial boiler systems, hot water systems, and steam raising plant and so help reduce maintenance costs, maintain boiler efficiency and extend plant and equipment life. These include Tannin, Sulphite, Carbohydrazide & DEHA chemical blends.

Carbohydrazide

 Carbohydrazide

Neutralized catalyzed sulphite liquid for easy use in low and medium pressure boilers.

Catalyzed bisulphite liquid. High strength, for use in low and medium pressure boilers.

Carbohydrazide based liquid for use on deaerated feedwater. Suitable Hydrazine replacement. Ideal “zero solids” treatment for High Pressure Boilers.

Tannin based liquid oxygen scavenger. It both scavenges the oxygen and forms a corrosion resistant film. Ideal for low pressure and steam heritage applications.

DEHA based liquid. “Zero solids” and steam volatile. Ideal for Medium and High Pressure Boilers and will provide condensate system protection also.

Types of Boiler Oxygen Scavengers

Boiler Oxygen Scavengers are used to remove dissolved oxygen from the boiler feed water and boilers. Dissolved oxygen in the boiler is very corrosive at higher temperatures and pressures. This may lead to localized pitting and premature boiler tube failure or excessive feedwater leaks.

What is Boiler Oxygen Scavengers?

The most common boiler oxygen scavenger is sodium sulfite. Most popular sodium sulfite blend is a 19% neutral 7 pH liquid solution or in concentrated powder form. Other liquid blends are also provided. These blends may include:

Sodium Sulfite

Potassium Sulfite

Diethylhydroxylamine

BiSodium Sulfite

The liquid version may be added directly to the system. The powder form must be mixed with water prior to injection. Always feed your oxygen scavenger as far back in the system as possible to protect the feed water tank or DA and feed water pumps. Always injection the chemical into the center of the tank with a chemical injection quill with a check valve.
